A Future-Ready IT Organization for a Fast-Growing Tech Provider
The Client
A rapidly expanding global company delivering end-to-end software and cloud technology solutions.
The Situation
The company’s Business IT function was preparing to introduce a new operating model but lacked clarity on the best organizational structure to support it. While some foundational decisions—such as separating functional and people development responsibilities—were made early on, the details remained undefined. Key questions around team structures, processes, and roles at all levels needed to be addressed to create a scalable and effective setup.
Our Approach & Solution
To bring clarity and structure to the transformation, we worked closely with the CIO and senior IT leadership team through a series of interactive design workshops. Drawing on proven agile organizational models, we tailored a structure that fit their specific needs.
We introduced an iterative approach to organizational design, ensuring flexibility as the model evolved. The final structure featured cross-functional teams aligned to business domains and IT services, along with a refreshed leadership framework that included "People & Area Leads" to drive both expertise and team development.
Beyond structure, we helped map 400 Business IT employees into their new roles, clearly defining responsibilities and leadership competencies. We also guided the leadership team in setting Objectives & Key Results (OKRs) to drive alignment and accountability. Additionally, we established and supported the change management team, ensuring structured communication, engagement, and adoption activities were in place to help employees navigate the transition smoothly.
To ensure long-term sustainability, we collaborated closely with HR to design new roles and job profiles, making sure they aligned with the company’s broader job and career system. This helped integrate the new structure seamlessly into existing HR frameworks, ensuring career progression and talent development remained a core focus.
Key Outcomes
With the new operating model in place, the Business IT function is now better equipped to focus on its three key priorities: customer-centricity, speed, and employee development. The structure is designed to be both flexible and scalable, ensuring it can support the company’s continued rapid growth.
